I failed to mention that my folks were in town for a few days on their way back to Montana. It seems that my brother's wedding in Florida was a perfect excuse for them to avoid the cold snow this year and besides getting to spend time with them, an added bonus was doing some home projects with them.
The big group project was doing yardwork. Last year I received a certified letter from my HOA chastising the weeds growing inside the fencing. I had tried to keep up with them, but with all the rain Houston gets, vegetation grows like crazy. Mom and Dad took care of transplanting some grassy tufts from the target area while I cleared off the ground under some trees and fought with the brommeliads (I think they won from the looks of my arms afterwards). Two trips to Lowes, eight bags of cedar mulch and a roll of weedstop later, the job was done. The weedstopping effectiveness is yet to be determined.
Oh, and Dad fixed the doorbell. Turns out it was the ringer button that needed replaced.
