Over the years I have been slowly adding albums from the shelves as well as new purchases and after nearly three months of a somewhat dedicated effort, I have finally finished the first phase of converting my physical cd library into a digital one. For me, there's something about holding the album in my hand, reading the liner notes and taking in the artwork as well as sliding the disc into the stereo and listening every track, one after another. So often when I use an iPod, I set it to shuffle and let it play. This is to say I still buy albums rather than purchase downloads, making the task not so small by any means.
As I said, ripping the cds was only the beginning. Now I'm left with downloading missing album art for iTunes, cleaning up file names (spelling), and the more daunting task of merging my downloaded library and removing duplicates along the way. But for now I'm going to start reading George Orwell's 1984 (first time since high school) and wait for the fear of Big Brother to set in.
