Disoriented. After having fallen asleep with the television on, she woke up so disoriented that she tried to turn it off with the stereo remote. Disoriented.
Sad but true. It was a good 30 seconds until I realized that it wasn't because the battery was dead on the remote, but it was just the wrong remote.
Two times this week I was called "Miss Melissa" which is just funny to me, yet it's got a good roll off the tongue to my ears. One was just Texas hospitality, the other was from the guy at Starbucks that looks like he could be Howie Day's older brother.
You know how hard it is to have "rest breaks" at work without the internet? It's like a smoker running out of a cigarette. Addicted? Probably. It's just nice to keep tabs on what's going on in the world while I'm sitting in a little gray cube. I need CNN.com damnit. Hopefully it'll get fixed soon since I finally broke down and called the help line. That's always the worst call to make to them. "Yea...my internet is down and I need it to look at important work related things like, um, technical paper searches. Yea, technical paper searches." When really it's the fact that I'm curious what the average temperature will be in Chile and Argentina in a months time.
So now Argentina is on the itinerary. Not that there really is much of one - but that's fine by me. Chile and Argentina. I've got all my shots and the passport is in the drawer. The Big Trip is less than a month away and I'm starting to get that anticipatory feeling. Lots to do between now and then though. Work, a couple weekend activities, a birthday (feel free to send presents and well wishes), and a little bit of packing and I'm ready to go. Something like that.
So excited. Why? Toad the Wet Sprocket is opening for the Counting Crows in LA after I get back from Chile. Well first is the Cher/Cyndi Lauper concert, but this may become the highlight of my year. Concert wise. I sort of doubt that much will top spending three weeks in Chile which is now nearly a month away. So much work to get done between now and then.
Back to Toad though - probably one of the bands that I've been listening to the longest that I still love. I remember the first time I was able to see Glen Phillips play live in LA. So so good. Nice that what was once turning out to be a barren year concert wise (compared to the 30+ the last two years) is making a comeback with quality rather than quantity. In the next few months I'll be catching Jack Johnson, G. Love and Special Sauce, Jason Mraz, and Will Hoge as well as the aforementioned bands. So so excited.
Spent the morning cleaning off the porch. As Sara said, if you do it ever two weeks it's not so bad, but this has been something like two months. The end result of an hours worth of work? A semi clean porch and what feels like dirt in my nose. I may have to bust out a face mask next time along with some big yellow gloves.
Last night brought along the return of the late night jaunt to LA for some music related activity. Dispatch was screening their dvd (concert footage, interviews) as well a little performance afterwards. I listen to a lot of music and my choice of cds goes in phases (might be some correlation to the lunar phases) and it had been a while since I'd busted out the Dispatch cds. Just sitting there watching the performance of some of the older songs took me back in time to when I was in college and first started listening to the band and then to long haul across Oregon when I was driving to California some 3 years ago. Good stuff - well, mostly good stuff. The not so good was the hazy head that came with getting home at 1:30a and caffeine buzz that made me question whether it was the a/c shaking the apartment or the earth below. Made for some strange dreams too. You don't get to hear about those though.
