I find it amusing that when I'm not posting anything I'm getting my most hits. Well, that's most from people searching for John Mayer's first album "Inside Wants Out" which is out of print. Maybe I should put my other copy up on Ebay...
It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I've been busy. Flying to and fro across the country. Too busy to post. Here are some photos though: Photos from DC Mike says I should submit the geometric one to a contest...we'll see. And yes, I did see some monuments while there - they are just on another roll.
Every year the local newspaper sends out ballot and tallys up the votes to compile a best of Kern County list. "Best of" being a relative term, because you are talking about the Best of One of the Worst. Not to complain too loudly about where I live, because I know there are much worse places to reside (Midland) but on the other hand there are some much MUCH better cities that I would prefer to live in - namely anywhere north of California and west of the Dakota's.
So flipping through the special section of the paper there a few things that cause me to shake my head. First off would be that Starbuck's is the favored coffeehouse. I realize there are many of them and I too stop off for the occasional morning jumpstart, but to me, it's just a reminder that the city lacks the independent coffeehouse and all that it brings. When I first moved here I would drive across town on occasion to check out bands playing at Supreme Bean, but that gets to be a long hall just for a little stumming (guitar) and buzzing (my nerves after the caffeine). I've also been slow to discover a coffeehouse that is located downtown - Dagny's. There might be some promise yet. To me, a coffeehouse is a place where eccentrics, intellectuals, and students go to wax philosophic, read a book, or attempt to do homework. Here I find already stimulated teenieboppers fulling up on sugar and caffeine with their double grande caramel brownie mocha locha choka frappucinos - because they need help being any more obnoxious.
