So yesterday I get screwed over by Ticketbastard while trying to get ANY tickets to Bridge School and I admit that while I was angry at the stress I put myself though (I was trying to buy for a friend also) I wasn't completely disappointed. True, I'll be missing out on Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Pearl Jam, Ben Harper, Dave Matthews, and Tracy Chapman. But that doesn't change the fact that I got more excited this morning when I found out I will finally be able to see Rockwell Church (if my friends agree to go) in San Francisco. That's right - give me an indie band playing at some bar for a $5 cover over a high priced benefit concert that sells out in the matter of an hour.
Yesterday didn't start out the best - for whatever reason my virus scanner decided to quit work and take a vacation. This meant spending much of the morning trying to solve the problem and the solution turned out to manually removing the program and reloading it. Then lets move on to the Great Apartment Search. I'm not exactly sure when I'm going to be moving...sort of depends on the whole merger thing and how it works out. Also, there's the fact that right now I split rent with a roommate and her psycho moments have lessened. Maybe I can put up with the fact that not everyone buys toilet paper that is more like sand paper and then puts it on wrong (over not under damn it).
So my fellow kayaker Karen and I, head out to check a few listings out and what not since she's wanting a garage to store her vast abundance of gear in. Well, how the hell are you supposed to be able to look at apartments on a weekend when no one is around? The next few hours were spent driving around complexes, peering into darkened office windows and picking up "listings" from realtors. Could be a sign...
Then things started to pick up. Drove down to Ventura with another friend to check out the Surf Rodeo and see Jack Johnson play. In theory, the Surf Rodeo would be surfers taking boards at random out and attempt to ride waves. I say in theory, because by the time we got there no one was surfing. They did have these funky cut out cows out in the waves along with hay bales on the beach.
Haven't seen so many cowboy hats since I was at a bar back home last Christmas. The atmosphere was very mellow - slowly more and more people gathered around, sitting on the beach in front of the stage. A couple other guys came on and warmed the crowd up and then out came Jack Johnson. I had seen him play once before. Okay, that's nearly a lie. I could barely see him at the Street Scene in San Diego due to the mass of people that had accumulated after Pat McGee Band played. This was so much better though - more intimate.
After the show we headed back to Bako with a small detour to Chili's. This seemed to make the whole trip come together for Kathy...something about the salsa I suppose. That one, she's a strange egg. Then again, I'm the one that got excited about seeing a lumpy yard.
Slacker that i am....I've been to New Mexico and back for Labor Day weekend and headed to San Diego tomorrow for Street Scene to see Pat McGee Band, Jack Johnson, and Counting Crows. To bed I go.
